What do you give to a Superhero Couple?

Before Art by Jack "The King" Kirby

After Art by Jeaux "How do you say that?" Janovsky

I've been itching to share this w/ you guys for awhile now, and now I can!

This is a wedding present I made for my friends, Daniel Levitch & Amber Levitch, who recently tied the superheroic knot. This is what you give to a super couple.

I doctored an old Fantastic Four comic and illustrated Daniel & Amber as their superhero alter egos: Multiple Lass & Squid Fingered Dude! (Please note the wedding band on one of Daniel's Squid fingers.) Also, they are battling, I mean WALKING, their new pup: DASH el Gigante!

Here you can see the Before & After!

I had an epic time Daniel & Amber, Thanks, Congrats, and here is to many, many years together for the 2 of you!

The happy couple at Comic Con!

She'll be receiving a few of my mini-comics in the mail as a teeny, tiny prize, along w/ internet bragging rights! Thanks Erin! Check out Erin's Tumblr, her art is pretty cool!

Here's a couple Joe Barbera studies. The purple pencil sketch one is my least favorite. At first I was hesitant to put it up, but I figured I would try to lose my anxiety about putting up art that doesn't quite hit the mark for me and at the same time, share some of my process w/ you guys and gals.
I felt I was beginning to grasp Joe, as the 2nd Joe Study can attest to. I went w/ the Joe on the bottom right for my final, and the final came out pretty great!
Fred really seemed to like it too!

Here's my sketch studies of Bill Hanna & pals! Bill is pretty fun to draw and is such a character, himself! I've been reading his book, A Cast of Friends, and so far it's been a sincere pleasure to read!
I did the column sketchbook drawings of Bill (in tux and a goofy younger Bill) while waiting for Ava while she was running an errand at a tailor's place in my sketchbook. I like how those came out a bunch.
It's been a hectic week w/ lots of weirdness scattered about, so please bear w/ me.
During the next few days I plan on dedicating a blog post to my mentor & hero during my time at Calarts, the great Corny Cole, who passed away this Monday. I have a ton of original scans of his work I'd love to post up for people to see. RIP to my hero Corny Cole. "Draw Dammit!"
I'm also planning on posting up a few "rejected" Original Cartoon Heroes Chuck Jones pieces I did that Fred was just not feeling. And for the best too! Fred really knows his stuff, and what works!
Believe it!
Look for those in the next few days, here or on Frederator.com's Lunchbreak.
And just another friendly neighborhood reminder that I am always on the lookout for some freelance! Nothing is too big or small for me, so don't be afraid to ask. I am available for freelance of any artistic sort.

Illustration, Comics, Animation, character design, storyboards, comedy writing, etc.

If you are, or if you know of anyone, looking for any one of those things that need to be filled, send them, or yourself, my way. My info is over on the left hand side-bar, in the splendid Jeaux Janovsky Links section!

Thanks all!

Original Cartoon Heroes: Book Research

Screw the internet, we're going OLD School Technology.

This is a great read.

King of Cartoons: Tex Avery
Had a tough time finding this doozy. Thankfully, Fred scored me a copy. :)

My Life in Toons: Joe Barbera
Read this a few years ago, it was pretty good then. I'm sure a re-read will prove it's still holds up.

Original Cartoon Heroes: "Tex Avery" Behind the Art

Doing research on Tex Avery for Original Cartoon Heroes, and I cannot for the life of me find any good photos of him online. Too small, or he's looking away from the camera. I even tried my local library branch, but the 2 books I needed are in Reference and not available for check out. Bummed!
Luckily, Fred is ordering me the books off of Amazon! Thanks Fred! :)
In the meantime, here are a few studies of Tex I did.

Original Cartoon Heroes: "Bakshi Studies" Behind the Art

For those of you not in the know, I've been working on a dream freelance project w/ Fred Seibert of Frederator on a postcard tribute series, named Original Cartoon Heroes.
Fred & I came up with a list of Animation Legends, and I'm very proud to pay tribute & give homage to these Greats in my style.
Above you will see my studies for Ralph Bakshi. The only one of the list who is still with us, still painting, still drawing, still stirring the Animation stew (and adding a lot of pepper and hot sauce while he's at it!)
Ralph Bakshi is a hero of mine, and I am pleased to say that he's using an early incarnation of my Original Cartoon Heroes tributes as his personal Facebook Avatar still! For that, I am honored beyond belief!
I can't wait to share the new version I've done w/ him!

Thank you Ralph.

Thank you Fred.

Thanks to Cartoons.

Original Cartoon Heroes

Chuck Jones art originally posted March 24th, 2008 for Channel Frederator.

I've recently been commissioned by Fred Seibert to create a series of postcard tribute art of Original Cartoon Heroes, based off a few Refrederator illustrations I did a few years ago while working w/ Fred on Channel Frederator in NY.

I've been having a blast creating the recent pieces and it's been rekindling my love affair w/ cartoons again.

This will be my "Love Letter" to Cartoons.

Thanks Fred!

Keep your eyeballs glued here, as I'll be posting other Original Cartoon Heroes images, sketches, and behind the art goodies.

While you're thinkin' about that, why don'tcha take a look at our other project: Life After Myth?

LIFE AFTER MYTH - trailer from Whit Hertford on Vimeo.
